18th Dec 2007 L&OBSC Xmas Party At Lowestoft FC Function Room
9th Dec 2007 Time Trials Aimed at non-performance swimmers, to get County QTs. It followed Session 2 of the Club Distance Champs. We covered 50 Free, 50 Breast, 100 Back & 100 Fly. The other strokes to follow in due course. Results here!
8th Dec 2007 Novices Gala Rnd 2 A lower entry than we have been used to over the last year, however it kept two referees busy for the full duration! Results here!
8th Dec 2007 East Midlands Speedo League Rnd 3 An exciting nip-and-tuck gala at the Lincoln Yarborough pool, against strong opposition from Sherwood Colliery (it's in the bag!), Kings Lynn and Worksop. The other teams were Boston and hosts, City of Lincoln Pentaqua.
We had a number of swimmers not able to attend, a number who swam but were really not very well and then there was the long slog to Lincoln. Despite the non-ideal setup, they fought hard all the way. The individual results were rather variable, but with 5 other teams, what really mattered was the average. In our case we just came out on top, just 5 points ahead of old rivals, Sherwood Colliery! This confirms our 7th place in the league. Results here!

1st/2nd Dec 2007 Sheffield LC Open Accompanied by there Coach and two team managers, 9 swimmers competed at the prestigious Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in this Level 1 open meet. There was a high standard of competition as the L&OB swimmers achieved a number of PB’s as well as regional and National QTs. Coventry: Held at Coventry 50m pool this provided an opportunity for swimmers to update their LC times and gain further experience in a long course pool. Results here!
24th Nov 2007 CH Beckett Gala This was at Gt Yarmouth High School, in their 25 yard pool, so the times do not count for normal PBs. We were due to swim against Gt Yarmouth, Long Stratton & Halesworth. Interestingly, Halesworth did not turn up again. Long Stratton have just had their pool closed until next September - a nightmare scenario for any club. We finished 2nd. Results here!
23rd/24th Nov 2007 Coventry LC Open Held at Coventry 50m pool this provided an opportunity for swimmers to update their LC times and gain further experience in a long course pool. Due to a heating problem, the pool temperature and atmospheric conditions were exceptionally cold making it difficult for all competing swimmers. None the less, L&OB swimmers Zoe Smith and Owen French still managed to come home with some medals to add to their collection. Results here!
23rd Nov 2007 Winter League Rnd 1 A & B teams only this year. They both swam at Lowestoft, hosted by Gt Yarmouth. The A team won by a small margin, the B team finished 4th out of the five teams taking part. Results here!
17th Nov 2007 Civic Gala Finals We presented trophies every two event - no problems with swimmers going home, plus it speeded up the gala by around 45mins. We were all finished, bar clearing up, by 9pm after a 5.30 warm-up. Results here!
10th Nov 2007 East Midlands Speedo League Rnd 2 Wow, what a ding-dong battle! This Div 1 gala was a three-horse race between the mighty Lincoln Vulcans, City of Milton Keynes and L&OBSC. City of Lincoln Pentaqua, Melton Mowbray and Market Harborough really did struggle to make an impact. In a hard-hitting and bruising gala, with pretty much our best-possible team out, we clocked up an impressive list of 1st places (Sophie Chamberlain x 3, Zoe Smith, Carly Ogogo, Nathan Henderson and both our 15u Medley relays!) With a healthy crop of 2nd and 3rd places as well, I guess our weakest point was the relays , which did pull us down. Lincoln Vulcans may have won, but they had their wings clipped by the other two clubs much more than their first-round gala. Frustratingly, we just got pushed into 3rd place, by 5 points - so near, yet so far! Our prospects of getting to the 'A' final at UEA are now doubtful, but we have to wait for the full results to appear on the Speedo website.
This gala really is evidence that we can pull our weight at a high level. Our aim has to be to build our strength from the bottom upwards and to get that extra edge! Results here! Speedo League website here!
10th Nov 2007 Broadland Series, Lowestoft Oops - no teams to swim against...
We hosted this round and were expecting Halesworth, Diss & Leiston. We knew in advance that Leiston would not make it (not sure why) but the other two simply did not turn up. Suggestions that the A12 was flooded were probably not the case - it was closed around lunch time, but was open in the afternoon. A real shame for the swimmers but,  guess what - we won!!!
The gala was understandably a bit flat, but we had a good crop of PBs and some competitive swimming. Results here!
3rd-4th Nov 2007 East Region LC Champs We had a small, but select, team this year. We came 6th club overall, with brilliant first-places from Zoe Smith (50br) and Nathan Henderson (100Br)! As last year, there were not many PBs - this was the same across most of the other clubs as well and probably reflects this point in the training year for the older swimmers. L&OBSC results here! East Region website here!
3rd-4th Nov 2007 DSE Nationals We had two swimmer attend this year - Steph Bird swimming as S14 and Liam Walker as S17. Steph won a bag of gold & silver medals, with some really good Pbs. Liam won his first-ever DSE medal (bronze) in his 100 Breaststroke. Results here! DSE website here!
27th-28th Oct 2007 Ipswich Junior Open 2007 This was a targeted meet for all junior Performance Centre squads. It was also open to anyone else with the qualifying times. We had 44 swimmers go along, with a massive 156 PBs out of 208 swims (75%!) Not only this, but a whole bunch of swimmers hoping for County QTs smashed those and are seconds off Regional QTs! The 9-year-old swimmers did particularly well. Day 1 Results here! Day 2 Results here! TeamIpswich SC website here!
27th Oct 2007 Broadland Series, Diss Being half-term, we had a little bit of bother getting a full list of ticks. In the end  we had to swim two swimmers up an age group. We travelled by car and it always surprises me that everyone remembers to go and arrives without getting lost! Andy Holland team-managed, with the assistance of Harvey Connolly & Jessica Jane Applegate's mums - thank-you to both of them, they did a good job. Lots of good swims between three evenly-baanced teams. Many of the younger swimmers were less experienced competitors (the first time for some) and gained valuable experience. We had a definite advantage in the older age groups. We finished 2nd , just two points ahead of Diss and 12 points behind Leiston. Results here.
21st Oct 2007 ASA County Team Champs 2007 We has three swimmers compete for Suffolk in Div 1:
Sophie Chamberlain swam 100 Fly in 1 05.93 and briefly held the County junior record, finishing 7th. She swam 100 Breast in 1 17.97, another PB and finished 14th. She did a 27.64 on the freestyle leg of her medley relay, finishing 7th.
Emily Hawes swam 1 11.02 and finished 19th. She did 33.78 on the backstroek leg of her medley relay.
Zoe Smith swam relays-only, but knocked out 27.96 in the freestyle leg of her medley relay, bringing it home to a first place!
Full results on the ASA website...
20th Oct 2007 Basher Trophy Gala 2007 This as a B team gala at UEA, in long course (50m) mode. Promoted by Norwich Swan, this has to be a comlete rarity, and all the more welcome for that! We did put in a competitive team and finished with a comfortable, but not emabarrassing, lead of 21 points over Mildenhall. Results here.
13th Oct 2007 East Midlands Speedo League Round 1 This is our biggest league event of the year and the team is picked purely on speed. We are in the Div 1 gala at Peterborough. UEA City of Norwich are conspicuous by their absence...
We drew against Boston, Market Harborough, Biggleswade and Louth, plus hosts City of Peterborough (COPS).  On the whole, a solid performance with excellent first places from Sophie Chamberlain (x3!), Carly Ogogo, Briony Lowe, Chris Smith, Nathan Henderson and Emily Hawes. Relay results were variable, with the Open Ladies Medley and Girls 15u Medley relay getting first places. We finished 3rd, 19 points behind Biggleswade and 53 points behind COPS. Results here!
I note that we swam against Market Harborough two years ago, when we went down to Div 2 after amalgamation.

6th Oct 2007 Novice Galas 2007/08 Round 1 A brilliant, intense and very crowded experience! We had 343 swims from 106 swimmers - not the largest number, but very close. We had good turnout from all our disability swimmers, including the group at Ashley. We had 21 first-time swimmers! We over-ran by 15 minutes, but got all presentations done and dusted. Results  here!
29th Sep 2007 Civic Gala Heats 2007 This event is promoted by Waveney District Council and is open to all swimmers who reside or train in the district. In practice it was like a combined LOBSC & Beccles club champs, and was organised entirely by ourselves. We had the electronic timing, which was a blessing because of the 470 swims! We had pushed the gala for our younger swimmers and they responded brilliantly, with full heats of 9-year olds for the first time I can remember. There was a very patchy turnout from the older swimmers, with Performance 1 & 2 being discouraged from competing. Big thanks to Leanne Barnard who stood in as commentator at the last minute and who did not feel well. Despite cracking through the races, we did not finish until 9pm! Results for ALL SWIMMERS here!
22nd Sep 2007 Broadland Series, Halesworth at Bungay We always plan to rotate swimmers at Broadland series, to give as many people as possible the opportiunity to compete. As it happened, we had a lot of swimmers crossing, so it was largely a familiar group who made teh run across to Bungay. We competed against  hosts Halesworth, Diss and Leiston. We swam well and won the gala by 24 points to Leiston. Results here!
15th Sep 2007 Bill Thompson Memorial Gala This is a Norwich Swan invitational and was held at Wymondham. We picked a strong B team and competed against two Swan teams and Dereham. A shame they could not et six teams in the water, but it was a very competitive gala..
The end result was a close run thing between ourselves and Dereham, with Dereham pipping us by 9 points. I do have to say that we put is a stong balanced B team, but Dereham had swimmers competing who really should not have been there. Results here!
