This set
up and club
structure is based on principles defined in the Long Term Athlete
Development Protocol produced by the governing body, the ASA and
British Swimming. Swimmers are allocated to different areas depending
on age, ability and goals. The Learn to Swim allows beginners to learn basic swimming skills and technique. Click here for more details. The Training Scheme houses swimmers who have learnt to swim but want to continue improving their skills, have a go a competing and generally enjoy the health benefits related to swimming. This section is divided into 3 Zones defined below. Advanced Skills – allows swimmers to develop those basic skills from learn to swim and take them further. Access to galas becomes available if desired. Club Zone - allows swimmers to train and compete in a more relaxed social environment. Also allows swimmers who are late developers to link in with the performance side. Performance Centre - highly disciplined and committed swimmers who are pursuing competitive excellence. The swimmer will be developed to “Train to Win” on the LTAD framework. Within each of these zones there are groups/classes of swimmers commonly known as ‘squads’. The Club Training Scheme operates within this squad structure. |
